OK so following along in a training module for PPC course I’m taking to help shake out the cobwebs and help get my own idea engine going I found out about is cool little tool developed by a company called adSage and given away for free by the Microsoft Adcenter team. It’s an add-in for Excel that allows you to do keyword research and grab actual search data from MSN and import it directly into the excel spreadsheet you’re working in. Why is this important? Because when uploading tons of keywords to Google it’s always best to upload keywords that get at least some traffic. Google penalizes campaigns with a low quality score when you upload tons of low to zero search volume keywords. It puts an unnecessary strain on their system. And as most of you know, the lower your quality score the higher your bid costs which equates to smaller profit margins. And “smaller profit margin” is near foul language in this business. But I’m rambling (as usual). In any case, using the Excel add-in to trim down your initial keyword upload to only words with some search volume over the past 6 months is a good idea.

I’ve gone back and forth on this decision for a few months now. Should I take the test. Should I not take it? Why should I take it? One of the key reasons for taking it that pushed me over the edge is that as I read blogs of super affiliates one factor that always jumps out at me when I’m fawning over how smart these guys seem to be is that a lot of the tricks they come up with are based on the fact that they know a LOT about adwords and how it works. They know the loopholes, what they can and can’t get away with, and always seem to be one step ahead of all of the rest of us. Why? Because they took the time to study and learn every aspect of their craft and got really good at it. In other words, they put in the work!

A big problem I as a detail obsessing affiliate have to deal with is I often look at a problem or situation from multiple angles and spend hours trying to “plug all the leaks” instead of just launching the campaign! One such leak I came cross while building my latest wordpress based affiliate minisite was that variables I passed to the site via my links from adwords only work on one page. Once the user leaves that page to browse around the site that variable is lost. So if they decide to click on a link and I make a sale or conversion, I have no idea where that conversion came from. And I hate blind conversions. It’s also a good idea to use the keyword or keyphrase the user searched for to drop subtle hints throughout the site to remind the user why they came to your site and what they were searching for.

LargeAffiliate.com is my blog (obviously) where you will be able to get to know me and follow along in my journey as I strive to become a Super Affiliate!

I chose LargeAffiliate as a name because as you have already gathered, I am not yet a “Super Affiliate”, but I do pretty well in affiliate marketing so I think this monicker fits quite well for now. I still have a day job but hopefully you will all be here reading when I make the post announcing that I finally QUIT!

In the mean tiem I will offer tips, product reviews (of all the crap and ebooks I’ve bought over the years and still do today), code snippets, and just generally share my journey with you all.

So stay tuned! I’m working on the blog design and some good content to start out with before i launch so subscribe to the feed via email and get notified BEFORE I even launch!
